"The portal system is an excellent tool. It provides stable connectivity of our internal systems with Internet, allowing us to supply passengers with up-to-date and reliable information on line. We also appreciate practically limitless number of portlets and easy to use administration interface." – Ing. Ján Palko – Operations and Business Manager

Company Profile

Košice Airport was built in 1951 near the city of Košice, Slovak Republic, and has been growing ever since. In December 2004 Košice Airport became a civil international airport. By the end of the same year, the airport succeeded in opening a new T2 terminal. In the summer of 2005, it received a “Construction of the Year? award at the 11th National public contest. Košice Airport has also recently exceeded the record for the number of handled passengers. In January 2006 the TwoOne consortium has been recommended to the Slovak cabinet as the winner of a tender for 66-percent stakes in Bratislava and Košice airports. Investments in Košice airport should exceed €24 million by the end of 2015.

Challenge

Košice Airport management was primarily seeking a new attractive web site. But after seeing the power a web portal delivers in connectivity between the Internet and the company Intranet, the management instantly changed their minds. Although the project was limited by a modest budget, the Airport managed to gain a sufficient grant from the Ministry of transportation, posts, and telecommunications. The basic requirements included a user friendly environment, ease in administration, display of up-to-date information (e.g. arrivals and departures, weather, statistics, etc.), and a modern design. Košice Airport hoped to get an attractive Internet presentation and effective intranet system, both connected in an interactive application.
