Company ProfileJason's Deli originated in 1976 in Beaumont, Texas, with 12 menu items. Today over 100 items, from traditional Reubens to New Orleans Muffalettas, are served daily at 135+ locations across 17 states. Jason's Deli corporate and franchise locations employ over 1000 managers and corporate staff.
ChallengeJason's Deli needed a solution that would serve as a company intranet and be open and flexible enough to add and tailor features specific to the varied tasks of the restaurants and support department. The development team wanted an open-source application with growth potential that was JSR-168 compliant. Due to the limited development resources of the relatively new IT department, it was important to find an application that would require minimal customization and development while fitting into an already stretched budget.
ResolutionJason's Development team, Kevin Verde, CIO, and Toma Bedolla, Director of Architecture and Development, chose Liferay Portal Enterprise to fit the bill. Liferay's aesthetic quality initially caught their eye, and after closer inspection they realized that it matched all of the major criteria.
Liferay has enabled Jason's Deli to:
- Eliminate an expensive commercial intranet with very limited functionality.
- Use single-authentication to access various company sites that previously required separate user identification procedures.
- Reduce the amount of "clutter" in an individual's e-mail box by rerouting group discussions to the message boards.
Jason's Deli's future plans for their Liferay application include:
- Integrating back-of-the-house software applications.
- Help Desk issue recording and tracking.
Just as other companies have realized through using Liferay products, Jason's Deli saved thousands of dollars annually while increasing functionality and enabling unlimited future growth through the implementation of Liferay Portal.
